What happened
Chattah was named interim U.S. attorney in March, a role legally capped at 120 days. Shortly before it expired, the Justice Department moved her to a different job that would let her serve as acting U.S. attorney instead. Campbell held in a 32-page ruling that she was not validly serving and disqualified her from supervising four prosecutions. Trump named a replacement in February 2026 while she appealed to the Ninth Circuit.
