Trump Will Fly to Ireland Sept. 12-13 to Watch the Irish Open at His Own Doonbeg Golf Resort

President Trump plans to travel to Ireland on Sept. 12 and 13 to attend the Irish Open at Trump International Golf Links Ireland in Doonbeg, County Clare, a White House official told the Associated Press on Aug. 23. The official, who was not authorized to speak publicly, said Trump will also join an event with U.S. embassy staff and business officials. Trump's sons run the Trump Organization day to day, but the property remains a family asset.

The visit places the president, his security detail and the aircraft that carry them at a venue his family owns, and the tournament's association with a sitting president is itself of commercial value to the resort. AP frames the trip as the latest instance of Trump blurring official travel and family business. Related bookings follow the same pattern: his Bedminster course hosted a LIV Golf event in August, and Doral is scheduled to host the PGA's Cadillac Championship in March 2028.

The Ireland trip is scheduled days after the Republican Party's first-ever pre-midterm national convention in Dallas on Sept. 9-10. As recently as last year Trump criticized Barack Obama for flying long distances to golf as president.
