Trump Signs a Nearly $70 Billion ICE and Border Patrol Bill Passed by a Two-Vote House Margin
President Trump signed the Secure America Act on June 10, 2026, directing nearly $70 billion to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol for the remainder of his term. The House cleared the budget reconciliation package the previous day, June 9, by 214 to 212.
Multi-year funding enacted through reconciliation removes the recurring congressional leverage that annual appropriations bills provide over an agency's operations. It does so for an enforcement apparatus whose detention capacity, custody deaths and tactics were the subject of active litigation and oversight disputes through the same period, and the two-vote House margin underscores how narrow the coalition behind that lock-in was.
