Trump Organization Strikes Qatari Golf Resort Deal

At the end of April 2025 the Trump Organization announced a new Trump-branded golf course and luxury villa project as part of a $5.5 billion beachside development near Doha, Qatar. The project, developed with the Qatari-government-owned firm Qatari Diar alongside a Saudi partner, was the company's first foreign deal since Trump returned to office and its first ever involving a foreign government stake.

The arrangement drew scrutiny because it appeared to conflict with the Trump Organization's own second-term ethics pledge, which promised to avoid deals involving foreign governments. The company said its agreement was with the Saudi firm rather than Qatari Diar directly, though Eric Trump had referenced both companies when announcing the project.

The deal matters because Qatar is a major U.S. security partner and frequent subject of diplomatic negotiation, and critics say a sitting president's family business profiting from Gulf-state-linked capital invites the perception that foreign governments can buy access and goodwill. No enforcement action has resulted; the project remains in development.
