Trump's Municipal Bond Holdings Grow to Nearly $1 Billion as Policy Overlaps Mount
A CNBC analysis published September 29, 2026, found that President Trump's municipal bond holdings have grown to more than 1,000 positions worth between roughly $300 million and $1 billion, up from 807 positions worth $240.7 million to $797.6 million at the end of 2025. The bonds are tied to cities, hospitals, schools and utilities nationwide, including coal plants that received pollution-rule exemptions from his administration and hospitals affected by Medicaid policy changes. Unlike his actively traded stock portfolio, Trump has disclosed purchasing municipal bonds but not selling them.
The White House and the Trump Organization say the holdings are managed by independent financial institutions that Trump and his family cannot direct, and CNBC said it found no evidence he directed any trade or that his financial interests shaped administration policy. The disclosures nonetheless add to a pattern of overlap between Trump's personal investments and policies his administration sets, building on earlier reporting about his separate bond holdings.
