Trump Family Consolidates Control and Profit Stake in World Liberty Financial

World Liberty Financial, a crypto venture launched in 2024 by Trump's sons and the sons of envoy Steve Witkoff, raised hundreds of millions of dollars through sales of its $WLFI token, with an entity tied to Donald Trump and his family entitled to 75% of net token-sale proceeds. In March 2025 the venture also announced plans for a dollar-pegged stablecoin, USD1, expanding its footprint just as the administration pursued lighter crypto regulation. The arrangement mattered because it placed a sitting president's family in direct financial control of a crypto business whose value is highly sensitive to regulatory decisions made by agencies the president oversees, including the SEC and Treasury. That overlap created a standing conflict-of-interest concern that persisted and grew throughout the term. Defenders described the venture as legitimate entrepreneurship in a booming industry. Critics, including later congressional scrutiny, pointed to the family's outsized profit share and the venture's rapid growth alongside deregulatory moves as evidence of self-dealing enabled by the presidency itself.
