Trump Family-Backed American Bitcoin Debuts on Nasdaq

American Bitcoin, a bitcoin-mining venture roughly 20 percent owned by presidential sons Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. (with mining company Hut 8 owning the remainder), began trading on Nasdaq under the ticker ABTC in early September 2025. Shares were highly volatile on debut, surging as much as 91 percent before falling by half, with trading halted multiple times; the company was valued at roughly $5 billion, including about $273 million in bitcoin holdings.

The listing renewed concerns about conflicts of interest and regulatory favoritism, since it occurred while the administration was actively shaping crypto-friendly policy and rhetoric. Critics noted that a company carrying the Trump family brand and benefiting from a permissive regulatory climate was entering public markets even as federal agencies had yet to settle consistent digital-asset rules.

No law bars relatives of a sitting president from holding stakes in publicly traded companies, and Nasdaq listing standards applied equally to American Bitcoin. But the episode added to a broader pattern of Trump-family crypto ventures gaining prominence and market value during the administration's tenure.
