Trump Administration Plans $2.8 Billion Bomb Sale to Israel

The Trump administration is planning to sell Israel a $2.8 billion munitions package including 20,000 MK 84 and 20,000 BLU-117 bombs, both 2,000-pound munitions, according to a U.S. official who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity on September 15, 2026, informally communicated to congressional committees that review large arms sales.

The 2,000-pound bombs have been used extensively by Israel in Gaza and Lebanon and have drawn scrutiny from human-rights experts; a U.N. inquiry concluded Israel committed genocide in Gaza, a finding Israel rejects. U.S. public support for Israel has declined since the war began, with a June Quinnipiac poll finding 48% of voters say the U.S. is too supportive of Israel.
