Treasury Sanctions Iran Weapons-Procurement Network Spanning China, Hong Kong and Pakistan
The Treasury and State Departments announced sanctions on September 29, 2026, against 10 individuals and entities in Iran, China, Hong Kong and Pakistan that officials said helped Iran's government procure weapons components and finished weapons systems. Those named include a Beijing-based representative of Iran's Ministry of Defense, an Iran-based procurement firm, a Hong Kong electronics supplier and its China-based representative, and the chairman of a Pakistani defense company. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the sanctions would "identify, expose, and isolate Iran's enablers."
The action is part of the administration's economic pressure campaign to force Iran to negotiate an end to the war that began with a U.S.-Israeli strike in February. A sanctions-compliance expert told Reuters the move would do little to impede Iran's missile and drone capability, calling it "optics management" rather than a substantive disruption of Tehran's weapons supply chain.
