Second Signal Chat Shows Hegseth Shared Strike Details with Family

Reporting disclosed that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared information about the timing of a Yemen military strike in a Signal messaging group that included his wife, brother and personal lawyer, none of whom held an official military or national-security role.

The disclosure extended concerns first raised by an earlier Signal chat that had inadvertently included a journalist, pointing to a broader pattern of sensitive operational details being shared outside official, secured channels and outside standard records-management practices for classified or sensitive military communications.

A subsequent Pentagon review, reported in December 2025, faulted Hegseth over the Signal messages, following the initial April 2025 reporting on the second chat.
