SBA Turns $1 Million in Federal Prize Money Into a Celebrity-Judged Pitch Show, With Pentagon Suppliers Among the Five Finalists

The Small Business Administration announced that five preselected finalists will compete on Sept. 18, 2026 in Washington for shares of a $1 million prize pool in a televised "Million Dollar Pitch Competition," marketed as part of the America 250 celebration. Administrator Kelly Loeffler told Fox News Digital on Aug. 31 that rapper Nicki Minaj, investor Grant Cardone and Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia will judge and actor Dean Cain will host. Prizes run from $400,000 down to $75,000. Truthout reported on Sept. 1 that federal contract records show at least three of the five finalists have taken Defense Department work.

The competition puts a federal agency in the business of producing entertainment with public prize money and celebrity judges, and the contractor overlap raises the question of whether the finalists were chosen as representative small businesses or as showcases for an administration priority.

The finalists were selected in July by a committee Loeffler convened. The event is to be broadcast live and is sponsored by the payments company Clover.
