Trump Administration Canceled 212 Enforcement Actions Against 205 Companies, Watchdog Finds
A Public Citizen tracker published Oct. 7, 2026, found the Trump administration canceled 212 federal enforcement actions against 205 corporations since January 2025: 80 closed investigations, 67 dismissed lawsuits and 54 other dropped consequences, including 14 pardons of corporate executives. The actions span the Justice Department, SEC, CFPB, FTC, NLRB, EEOC, EPA and other agencies, hitting banks, Big Tech and crypto firms hardest. Examples: the SEC settled a case that sought $150 million from X for $1.5 million; the CFPB dropped cases against Wells Fargo and Walmart; the FTC dropped its Microsoft-Activision challenge.
The report ties 90 of the 205 companies, 44%, to the administration or Trump personally, through donations, hiring Trump-allied lobbyists, or business ties to his companies, raising the question of whether enforcement tracked political ties rather than case merits.
Public Citizen, an advocacy group, says its database is not comprehensive, and the report does not establish any case was wrongly dropped. The agencies involved have issued no consolidated response.
