Intelligence Office Cuts More Than 200 Jobs Since June, Shrinking to Half Its Size

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence has shed more than 200 employees since June 1, 2026, according to data the office shared with Congress this week and described to congressional aides. The ODNI, which coordinates the U.S. intelligence community, began President Trump's second term with about 2,000 employees and is now little more than half that size, The Washington Post reported.

The reductions continue a broad contraction of an office created after the September 11 attacks to integrate intelligence across agencies. Rapid staffing losses at the coordinating body raise questions about analytic capacity and oversight at a moment when the administration is engaged in active military operations abroad.

The figures were disclosed to Congress this week; the office has not published a detailed accounting of which functions were affected.
