What it is
Future U.S. paper currency (Federal Reserve notes)
Who did it
U.S. Department of the Treasury (Secretary Scott Bessent; Treasurer Brandon Beach)
Detail
Treasury announced that the president's signature will appear on future paper currency alongside the Treasury Secretary's, which the department described as the first time in history for a sitting president, ending a 165-year practice in which the notes carried the signatures of the Treasurer and the Treasury Secretary. Beach tied the change to the 250th anniversary; the new notes are to be issued during the Semiquincentennial year. Made by department announcement rather than legislation. Like the $1 coin and the passport, this puts the sitting president himself on an official artifact rather than naming something after him.
