Trump State Department Adviser Resigns After Throwing Drink at NBA Fan

Britt McHenry, a State Department press adviser and former ESPN reporter appointed to the role in September 2026, resigned October 23 after video showed her throwing a drink during an altercation at a Washington Wizards–Milwaukee Bucks NBA game at Capital One Arena on October 21 and being escorted out of the arena. Page Six first reported her departure; a State Department official declined to comment beyond calling it an "internal personnel matter," and ABC News reported it was unable to immediately reach McHenry for comment.

Neither McHenry nor the State Department has publicly identified the person she targeted or explained what prompted the altercation. The episode drew renewed attention to McHenry's past public conduct, including a 2015 ESPN suspension after video surfaced of her berating a towing-company clerk, and adds to a string of Trump administration personnel departures this term tied to personal conduct rather than policy disputes.

No further agency action or statement has been reported since her resignation.
