Watchdog Sues to Stop the White House UFC Fight, Citing Trump's $50,000 Stake in UFC's Parent Company

The Public Integrity Project filed suit on June 6, 2026 on behalf of two Virginia residents — a Vietnam War veteran and a civic activist — seeking to block the UFC event scheduled for the White House South Lawn on June 14. The complaint argues the structure erected on the grounds was not authorized by Congress and did not undergo environmental review, and that using the White House 'to stage a private, for-profit sports event, with all the promotional and branding opportunities that accompany such access' would financially benefit UFC president Dana White and Trump himself, citing a report that Trump bought $50,000 in stock in UFC's parent company. The administration argued the fight fell under Congress's authorization for events marking the nation's 250th anniversary; the suit calls it 'a celebration of the UFC's brand and the 80th anniversary of Donald Trump's birth.'

The case tests whether the White House grounds may host a commercial event whose promoters include a business associate of the president and a company in which he holds stock.

U.S. District Judge Amit P. Mehta ordered the government to respond by June 9. The event went ahead on June 14.
