Election Denier Kurt Olsen Steps Down From DOJ's 'Grand Conspiracy' Probe
Kurt Olsen, a senior counsel in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida who helped lead the Justice Department's "grand conspiracy" investigation into Obama- and Biden-era officials, notified prosecutors by email on September 28, 2026, that he was leaving the case. DOJ officials in Miami and Washington initially told reporters Olsen had resigned from the department entirely; Attorney General Todd Blanche disputed that account, saying Olsen "has not resigned" and remains employed in the same office, though a department official later confirmed he will no longer work on the grand conspiracy matter. Two sources said a problem with Olsen's security clearance had arisen before his email, which would have barred him from reviewing the investigation's classified evidence.
Olsen, who worked to overturn the 2020 election results on Trump's behalf, is the third prosecutor this year to leave the stalled investigation, following Maria Medetis Long's removal in April and Joe DiGenova's resignation earlier in September. The investigation has not produced any charges.
