Trump Ambassador Guilfoyle Allegedly Pressed Donor for $100,000 Off the Books, Texts Show
The Wall Street Journal reported, in a story relayed October 7, 2026, that it reviewed a text it says U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle sent Kentucky donor Eric Deters on July 3, 2025 -- days before her confirmation hearing -- asking him to pay a $100,000 American Express bill without leaving a paper trail. Deters told the Journal he did not pay, saying it would have ended his marriage, and that he had separately given Guilfoyle $300,000 over the years without receiving "one favor" back.
Guilfoyle's attorney disputed the messages' authenticity without specifics, saying she "was owed a balance" for travel supporting political events. An embassy official defended her record; the State Department did not respond to requests for comment. No ethics complaint has been reported.
