GOP Sen. Curtis Asks Judiciary Committee to Subpoena Trump Jr. Over Russian-Funded Wedding
Republican Sen. John Curtis of Utah asked the Senate Judiciary Committee on September 22, 2026, to investigate and subpoena Donald Trump Jr. over a Bahamas wedding celebration that ProPublica reported was partly funded by Umar Kremlev, a Russian boxing official close to Vladimir Putin. Curtis's letter to Chairman Chuck Grassley and ranking member Dick Durbin sought records on Trump Jr.'s foreign business dealings and gifts, and any instance in which his relationship to the president "was invoked or understood to provide value"; Curtis called for equivalent scrutiny of Hunter Biden. He had separately called the Kremlev funding "corruption."
Durbin said he would support the request as a "good faith" one, while a Judiciary Committee spokesperson confirmed receipt of the letter but said a hearing before year's end would be difficult to schedule. President Trump, who did not attend the wedding, defended Kremlev's involvement and said the money would be repaid.
No subpoena has been issued, and the committee has not said whether it will open a formal investigation.
