- Grundmann was told by email her position was terminated effective immediately, although the statute allows removal only for inefficiency, neglect of duty or malfeasance after notice and hearing. Judge Sparkle Sooknanan ruled the removal unlawful and reinstated her on 2025-03-12; the D.C. Circuit stayed the order in June 2025. After her successor was confirmed, the appeals court on 2026-02-04 granted her motion to dismiss the appeal as moot, vacating the district court's judgment.
