- Trump moved to remove Cook over unproven mortgage-fraud allegations predating her nomination — without precedent in the Fed's 112-year history. On 2026-06-29 the Supreme Court ruled 5-4, Roberts writing, that she stays while the case proceeds, holding Trump had not met due-process requirements for dismissing a governor by social-media post. The White House has since restarted the process formally.
