What happened
Hegseth asked George to step down and retire immediately, about a year before his term would normally have ended. A senior defense official said 'it was time for a leadership change in the Army'; sources said Hegseth wanted someone who would implement his and Trump's vision for the Army. Gen. David Hodne, head of Army Transformation and Training Command, and Maj. Gen. William Green, chief of the Chaplain Corps, were removed the same day. Hegseth's former senior military aide, Gen. Christopher LaNeve, became acting chief.
