Fired Miami Prosecutor Sues the Justice Department, Saying an Influencer Posted ‘Fire Him’ and He Was Gone in Three Hours

Will Rosenzweig, a former assistant U.S. attorney in Miami, sued the Justice Department, Attorney General Todd Blanche and U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones on Aug. 7, seeking his job back plus back pay and damages. The complaint says that last September the right-wing commentator Natalie Winters posted about a blog he had written years before joining the department, addressed the post to senior Justice Department accounts and wrote “Fire him” — and that in under three hours he received a dismissal letter signed by then-Attorney General Pam Bondi giving no reason.

The suit alleges the removal was part of a wider campaign of political firings, and that the posts, written as a private citizen on matters of public concern, are protected by the First Amendment. His lawyers also question how Winters learned of a case that had drawn no department news release and almost no press coverage.

These are allegations in a complaint that has not been tested in court. Neither the Justice Department nor Winters responded to requests for comment.
