Executive Order Attempts to End Birthright Citizenship

On his first day in office, Trump signed Executive Order 14160, seeking to deny automatic U.S. citizenship to certain children born on American soil based on their parents' immigration status. The order challenged the long-standing application of the Fourteenth Amendment's citizenship clause.

Multiple federal courts blocked the order, finding it incompatible with the Fourteenth Amendment and longstanding Supreme Court precedent establishing birthright citizenship.
