Donald Trump Jr., Serbia, and the Foreign Policy of Family Business

On March 11, 2025, Donald Trump Jr. traveled to Belgrade and met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who was facing significant domestic protests at the time. The visit coincided with the Trump family's and Jared Kushner's involvement in a planned Trump International Hotel project in Belgrade, to be built on the site of a former Yugoslav military headquarters bombed during the 1999 Kosovo war.

A spokesman for Trump Jr. said the trip was solely for a podcast interview with Vučić and denied any connection to foreign policy or real estate interests. Critics countered that the visit gave a beleaguered foreign leader a high-profile association with the president's family, which stood to benefit from continued goodwill in Serbia.

Trump Jr. holds no official government role, but his family name and access have drawn recurring scrutiny for blending private business development with informal diplomacy. No legal violation has been established.
