DOJ Reportedly Investigates Jan. 6 Witness Cassidy Hutchinson Over Her Testimony
The Justice Department's Civil Rights Division is investigating former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson, reportedly over claims she lied to Congress, according to four people familiar with the matter. Routing the case there instead of the U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington, the normal venue for such matters, is described as a rare, "highly unusual" step.
Hutchinson testified before the House Jan. 6 committee in testimony that implicated Trump, angering him. No charges have been filed, and some DOJ officials reportedly doubt a viable case exists. The inquiry reportedly began while then-Attorney General Pam Bondi, since fired, was seeking to regain Trump's favor.
