Crypto Firms Pour Millions Into Trump's Inauguration

In the weeks around Donald Trump's January 2025 inauguration, cryptocurrency companies emerged as some of the most generous corporate donors in modern inaugural history. Firms including Coinbase, Robinhood, Ripple, Kraken, Crypto.com and others contributed a combined total reported at roughly $18 million to inaugural funds, part of a record-breaking $239 million haul from corporate donors overall. Ripple alone gave nearly $4.9 million, among the largest individual contributions.

The donations came from an industry that had spent years clashing with federal regulators, particularly the SEC, over enforcement actions and unclear rules. Executives publicly framed the giving as support for a more innovation-friendly regulatory climate, a stance Trump had embraced during his campaign.

Ethics watchdogs noted the donations arrived just as the incoming administration signaled a lighter regulatory touch toward digital assets, raising questions about the relationship between industry largesse and subsequent policy direction. No specific quid pro quo was documented, but the scale and timing of the spending drew sustained scrutiny from campaign-finance and government-ethics observers.
