Steve Witkoff's Son Sought Billions from Gulf States During Father's Diplomacy

Reporting in late September 2025 revealed that Alex Witkoff, son of Trump Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, had pitched a multibillion-dollar real estate credit fund to sovereign wealth funds in Qatar, the UAE, and Kuwait, seeking to raise roughly $4 billion, while his father was engaged in sensitive U.S. negotiations with those same governments over regional security and ceasefire talks. Qatar ultimately declined to invest.

Ethics specialists said the overlap matters because it creates at least the appearance that a diplomat's family could benefit financially from the same governments he negotiates with, even without evidence that any specific negotiation was altered. The Witkoff Group and a Qatari government spokesperson both denied any conflict, saying investment decisions and diplomacy were kept separate.

No agency has found that the fundraising influenced U.S. foreign policy outcomes, and the New York Times reported no evidence linking the business pitch to changes in Steve Witkoff's negotiating positions. The episode nonetheless added to broader scrutiny of the Witkoff family's blending of diplomatic access and private business across the administration's Middle East dealings.
