Army Reserve Surveys Units for Possible Cuba Operation Within 90-120 Days

An internal Army message reviewed by CBS News shows the Army Reserve is weighing whether it can supply Southern Command with police, medical and engineering units within 90-120 days, part of Pentagon planning aimed at Cuba, officials told CBS News. Commands were told to report availability by Sept. 25. The message does not name Cuba; Southern Command declined to discuss "deployment timelines."

The request follows reporting that planners examined options including a large air-assault operation, as Trump has said he could "take Cuba" and predicted its government "will fall," even while saying days earlier force likely won't be needed and "Cuba and us will make a deal."

No units have received deployment orders. The planning is preparatory only, and officials stressed it does not indicate a decision to act.
